MP3 Scan+Repair for Mac OS X release 1.1

A new version of the audio repair tool MP3 Scan+Repair (release 1.1) is available now. This utility (named MP3 Validator for OS X during the beta phase) will check and repair your MP3 audio files. This is especially useful to fix problems with more recent iTunes versions.

MP3 Scan+Repair works on Intel and PowerPC running OS X 10.5 Leopard or 10.4 Tiger.

Improvements in this version include:

  • Drag and Drop support from the iTunes window
  • Runs faster with less I/O demand
  • Skips files with fatal errors on repair now.

Feedback

Mac OS X 10.6.4

Worked fine thanks. I had a number of mp3's from newsgroup downloads that iTunes wouldn't play or only played the first few minutes. All look OK after repair :)

Files named ".Mp3"

The file extension is "Mp3" where it should be "mp3" (all lowercase). Haven't see that before but I'll note it down as a bug in the software :)
You can easily get around it this way: There is a checkbox a the bottom of the program window: "Validate only .mp3 files" -- Uncheck it.

Problemes using MP3 scan and repair

Hello,
Software looks great. It scanned my library (on an external hard drive) and found different types of errors.
However, it considered many files as not being MP3 files whereas I am sure they are ! These files could not be repaired and they represent most of my collection.
Any idea ?

Works Like a Dream!

Looking for bloody ages for a resolution to why iTunes wouldn't import a couple of albums and, in one case, the other half of an album MP3 Scan+Repair sorted it out in a couple of secs. Cheers!

Nice!!!!

Hi,
just wanted to leave you a quick THANKS for that little application of yours.
It did in seconds exactly what I hoped it to do.

Worked wonderfully

I had some old mp3 files that my iPhone refused to play (although I could play them on iTunes in the computer), and I had sort of given up on them until I used this app! It's really easy and it works great. The only thing I have to remark is that I had to quit iTunes and open it again before re-syncing, otherwise the repaired files wouldn't sync.
Thanks for the great work!

This software is fantastic.

This software is fantastic. Did exactly what I needed.

run from shell

Eddie, if you are cool with the shell, try some of the command-line-only projects. Early versions of MP3 scan and repair were based on mp3val, perhaps give that a try. Log file support will also be in the next version.

background version

Hi ! is it possible to use your great app as background app ? I would like to use it from a shell script and output to a logfile ?

Keep up the great work !

WORKED GREAT FOR ME! A+!

WORKED GREAT FOR ME! A+! THANK YOU THANK YOU!

fixed another album!

I was wondering why iTunes never played certain mp3s, and then i discovered they had never been added to my library. They just would not take. Scan & Repair found and fixed MPEG stream errors in every file, saving the day. Thanks!

That was a beautiful

That was a beautiful experience! Thanks so much, it fixed my favorite song with no trouble at all! <3

Broken beyond repair

Andy, if you want upload the song to some hoster and send me the link. I'll have a look. Maybe I can teach MP3 Scan+Repair to fix a new kind of error :)

Doesn't work for me.

Tried dragging a song into Itunes after hammering it and nothing imported.

Great Application

Thank you very much for a great invention. It solved all my ID tag problems very quickly and efficiently. The interface was also very easy to use. I'm more than happy to make a donation after all the time and money you have saved me. The only suggestion I would make would be to maybe consider adding other file formats like wma.

That solved it!

Thanks zany, right you are. Wiping and rebuilding the tags fixed them. Thanks for the help.

Both ID3v2 and ID3v1 in one file

Josh, the file you sent is without errors. Your ID3 tagging apps might get confused because there are both ID3v2 and ID3v1 tags present. Here are versions with one or both tags stripped. Please let me know if that fixes the problem — I’ll add a feature for that then.

Problems with ID3 tags

Hi zany, I received some mp3s that do not retain changed ID3 tags. Scan+Repair reported problems with two of them and said they were fixed, but the issue remains with all of them. As soon as they are played, or removed and readded to the library, the old tags return. (file removed)

Great!

This worked perfectly for me! Thank you!

Great Software

Hi,
Thanks for this excellent software its fixed over 75% of my 10,000 strong MP3 library. Without it I could not use my media streamer to listen to my music.

Thanks!

Import problems

Andy, what did the text say when scanning the files? Any serious errors? If not it should work otherwise I'll try to analyze and fix it. Please upload an example broken file (before repairing, perhaps from the Trash) and send me the link.

Doesn't work for me.

I cannot import MP3s into my Itunes even after "repairing" them with your software. Tried dragging a song into Itunes after hammering it and nothing imported.
